Fuel FilterESTIMATIONThe imitation filter looks well copied, but a cheap purchase leads to high repair costs.
1. An imitation fuel filter has no water disposal mechanism (an essential part of a filter).
2. The use of low-quality glue and a thin layer of glue cause the following defects:
- The filter paper tends to decompose quickly.
- Low-quality glue crumbles quickly when in service.
3. The core space of the filter body tends to rust due to lack of anticorrosion treatment.
4. Filtration efficiency is substantially reduced (70-80%) due to curl of filter paper.
DETAILED COMPARISON The appearance of the filter suggests that there is a water disposal mechanism. But this is not true for the nut is welded on the inner side of the bottom of the filter body. The infeasibility of water disposal leads to breakdowns of fuel injectors and the fuel injection pump.
Due to the use of low-quality glue the filter paper may quickly decompose and tear. Moreover, solid glue crumbles enter the fuel and block the fuel injectors.
Despite the sufficient area of filtration as is shown on the photo of an imitation filter at the left, the folds of the filter paper are wavy and contact with each other. This substantially decreases the filtration efficiency. The metal bands fastening the filter paper can easily be separated.

3. The internal tube is thin and thus can easily be deformed under maximum pressure when the filter gets blocked.
4. The filter body has thin walls which results in early cracking.
DETAILED COMPARISONAt first sight both filter papers look the same but the genuine filter paper contains elements of hardness (see arrows on the photo) for added durability under maximum pressure. That is why genuine Komatsu filters always suspend contaminations thus securing the engine from foreign particles.
Due to the use of low-quality glue the filter paper can easily be torn and cause contamination of oil with glue particles. The circulation of contaminating particles in the engine causes early wear of sliding and swiveling parts such as cylinder liners and pistons, the crankshaft, etc. This results in high repair costs. The internal tube is an important detail that provides the filter durability on the inside. The tube of the imitation engine oil filter on the photo is 2/3 as durable as a genuine Komatsu oil filter tube.
The body of the imitation engine oil filter cracked after a pulsed pressure test as it is showed on the photo. The body of this imitation filter is 1/6 as durable as a genuine Komatsu engine oil filter.
